What is an Individualized Educational Program Meeting (IEP)?

“IEP” refers both to a meeting and to the document that is produced at that meeting.  An individualized Educational program meeting (alternatively sometimes called an "Individualized Education Plan," "Individual Education Plan," or some combination thereof) is required by law when a child is identified as having a disability that is recognized under the Individuals with Disabilities Educational Act (IDEA). The purpose of an IEP is to provide a special needs child with specialized and individualized assistance in school. Meetings are held at the child’s school and documents created at these meetings specify the district's offer of special education services for your child.

Goals of the Seminar

To decrease parental fear of Individualized Educational Program Meetings (IEPs) by increasing familiarity with the process and basic law. To educate families on their child's legal rights and help them understand how to advocate for appropriate educational services.
