Donations

Do I have to send in my donations? Can I bring them with me to the walk?
While you can always bring your donations to the walk, or accept donations online, it is preferable that you mail them in as soon as you can to:

MAIL

Talk About Curing Autism
Attn: Walka for TACA donation
3070 Bristol Street #340
Costa Mesa CA 92626

ONLINE DONATIONS

Online donations are safe and secure. Custom fundraising pages can be made or general donations on behalf of the walk can be completed at www.firstgiving.com/walkafortaca

What if people want to give me cash?
It is safest and best for record-keeping that you convert all cash received to checks or money orders. If you are able, the safest option is to send a personal check covering the full amount, along with the corresponding donation forms, to TACA.  We will be able to credit your friends and family for their generosity.  If this is not possible, you can also always bring the cash donations and appropriate donation forms to the walk.

What if my donors don't want to donate online?
You can always have your donors mail their donations directly to our national office:

Talk about Curing Autism
Attn: Walka for TACA donation
3070 Bristol Street #340
Costa Mesa CA 92626

Please have them submit the corresponding donation forms with their checks so you will be credited for your fundraising efforts.  If this is not possible, please have them indicate which walk they are supporting and your name on the memo section of the check.

How do my donations get recognized

  • Mailing checks:  make sure to include your name or team name on the memo field or on a note with your donations.
  • Online Donations:  Create your own custom fundraising page at www.firstgiving.com/walkafortaca and have your donors make donations there. All donations you receive and are clearly marked via check will be recognized for Walka for TACA / Family & Friends incentives.

Can I continue to collect donations after the walk?  Where do I send the checks?
Absolutely!  Please mail donations with the appropriate donation forms to:

Talk about Curing Autism
Attn: Walka for TACA donation
3070 Bristol Street #340
Costa Mesa CA 92626

Will the money turned in at the walk show up on my web page and my donation report?

  • Absolutely.  When mailing in checks:  make sure to include your name or team name on the MEMO field or on a note with your donations.
  • Online Donations:   Create your own custom fundraising page at www.firstgiving.com/walkafortaca and have your donors make donations there.
  • All donations you receive and are clearly marked via check will be recognized for Walka for TACA / Family & Friends incentives.

I turned in a packet at the walk and do not see all the checks processed yet?
All donations to TACA should be deposited, processed and posted to your web page within 4-5 weeks of the day of the event.  If a month or more has passed and you still do not see your donations on your web page, please contact TACA at 949-640-4401.

How long will it take before the checks I mailed show up on my page?
Please allow 4-5 weeks for your donations to be deposited, processed and posted to your personalized First giving web page.

Are donations tax deductible?
Your gift is tax deductible to the extent allowed by the law.  Since 2003, Talk about Curing Autism has been a registered 501(c)3 organization. TACA’s tax ID number is 27-0048002.

Who should checks be made payable to?

Please ask your supporters to make checks payable TACA (short for Talk about Curing Autism.)

How will my donation to TACA appear on my credit card statement?
It will be displayed as TACA or Talk about Curing Autism – depending on credit card type.

Are there any additional fees in addition to the donation amount?
If you donate on line via First iving there is a small credit card processing fee. If you donate via personalized check and mail to TACA’s office there is no fee.

Incentives/Fundraising Rewards

Are fundraising incentives going to be available in 2010?
Yes.  For that information please go to the Family and Friends /Walka for TACA incentive information page at www.firstgiving.com/tacanow.

Walkers and donors will know that more of their pledges are having a direct impact on our mission.

$100 TACA supports more than 14,000 families each year at no cost to them.  For $100 we can provide support for one family living with autism.
$250 For $250 you can provide 75 Autism Journey Guides to help families whose children have just received the autism diagnosis.
$500 For $500 you can give Christmas or Hanukah to 3 children with autism through TACA’s holiday adopt-a-family program.
$1,000 $1,000 covers the cost of a medical treatment scholarship for one family. These scholarships help provide special assessments and medical care that is not covered by insurance and can make such a huge difference in the health and well-being of a child with autism.
$2,500 For $2,500 your gift can provide autism-specific training to three pediatricians so they can better diagnose and treat children with autism.
$5,000 Your gift of $5,000 blesses 50 families with the support, education empowerment and community that TACA provides.

For those individuals interested in TACA apparel and other items, Shop TACA will continue to add new items on a regular basis.

Registration

How to register for Walka For TACA
STEP ONE: Set up your personalized fundraising page at www.firstgiving.com/walkafortaca
STEP TWO:  Register for the walk with the number of persons in your party for FREE.

Should I start a team or join as an individual?

If you have a friend or family member joining you, please start a team ONLINE at www.firstgiving.com/walkafortaca.  If you are attending alone, please join as an individual.

Should I register my kids?
Yes, please register everyone who will be attending (even toddlers in strollers).  This helps us plan for the day of the event for kid friendly activities and snacks.

I have a family member who wants to join my team but may not be able to attend the walk.  Can they still join my team?
Yes, family members can still support you by joining your team and fundraise as a team member even if they are unable to attend.

Can I start a team with 2 people?
OF COURSE!  There is NO minimum requirement for team size.

Is there a fee to participate?
No. There are no registration fees, but we encourage each person to reach out to their friends and family for support to help TACA serve our mission to support families affected by autism. 95% of what TACA provides is FREE and we need the support of the community to continue the mission.

What is the cut-off to register or join a team?
Please have everyone register as early as possible to give us a good headcount so that we can plan for a better event.  Registration is also available on site the day of the event.

Some of my family would like to come, but not walk.  Do they need to register?

Please make sure to register each person that will attend (even if they do not walk).  It helps us know how many people to plan for.

Is it better to register online or register the morning of the walk?
There are many advantages to registering before the walk.  Here are just a couple.

1. Knowing how many people to expect will help us plan for a better event for everyone.  We order all items based on how many people we have pre-registered for the walk.

2. Each person who registers will receive a webpage within the Walka for TACA website. This will give friends and family a place to go where they can donate directly to you online or get a donation form and mail a donation directly to us that will be credited to your page. You can also customize this page with a photo and special messages to family and friends.  First Giving.com/tacanow will also help you send automatic thank you notes to your donors.

Will donors receive a letter regarding their donation for tax recognition purposes?
Yes.  If the donor sends in a check with their address and contact information or provides that same information on line via www.firstgiving.com/walkafortaca TACA will send each donor an acknowledgement letter.

Exhibitors

Will exhibitors be at the Walka for TACA?
Yes. There will be tables for local service providers who are there to talk to you and your family about products and services offered that help families affected by autism.

I know a local service that would be a great fit for the Walka for TACA, how do I get them involved?
We are always looking for new information for our participants. Please talk to them about the event and refer them to our Sponsor page  to learn more about the Walka for TACA event.

Exhibitor Questions:

Sponsorship

Is Corporate Sponsorship tax deductible?
Funds given in exchange for sponsorship deliverables can be tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Please check with your company's accounting and tax experts to get an accurate accounting of what can be declared charitable and what is a business expense. Since 2003, Talk about Curing Autism has been a registered 501(c)3 organization.  TACA’s tax ID number is 27-0048002.

Can sponsorship money be credited to a personal or corporate team?
Funds earmarked to a personal or corporate team are considered donations. Corporate donations credited to a team cannot be double booked as sponsorship and do not qualify for sponsorship deliverables.

For questions regarding sponsorship or starting a corporate team call the TACA office at 949-640-4401.

The Day of the Walk

Are pets allowed at the walk?
Sorry – no pets are allowed at this venue.  Many affected children have a fear of animals and even the sweetest pet could negatively affect another participant. Please be sensitive to this issue and leave your pets at home.  Only service dogs are permitted at the walk.

Are strollers and wheelchairs allowed at the walk?
Yes.  Strollers, wheelchairs and even wagons for the little ones are all welcome.

Are bikes, rollerblades, scooters or skateboards allowed at the walk?
Sorry – no - for everyone's safety, we can not allow any of these items.

I may not make it to the walk when Check-In/Registration opens.  Can I arrive late?
Yes. Check-in will be open until the walk ends. Please go directly to the check-in area when you arrive.

How much do I need to raise to receive a t-shirt on Walk day?
Volunteers will distribute t-shirts to those walk participants who have turned in a minimum of $150 through walk day (both pre-event and day of event donations will be counted).

If I don't pickup my t-shirt at the event, can I get one mailed to me?
Sorry, no. Shirts are only available at the day of the walk.

What happens if it rains on the day of the walk?
The walk will be held on the date scheduled "rain or shine."

What do I need to bring with me the day of the walk?
Please bring your team, sunscreen and any special needs items you will require. We do the rest.  Bottled water and light snacks will be available to accommodate the gluten free/casein free diet. We cannot accommodate special dietary requirements for snacks.

Volunteering

I want to volunteer with a team. Can I only register myself online and bring everyone else the morning of the walk?
We need each volunteer on the team registered so that we know how many volunteers to plan for and what areas need to be covered.

Can I get a community service sheet for the hours that I volunteer?
Yes.  At the end of your volunteer shift, please go back to the volunteer tent and speak to the Committee or Staff member in charge.  Please bring your volunteer forms with you.

What time should I arrive and where should I go?

All registered volunteers will receive an email about a week before the walk with detailed information (directions, parking, where to go and what time be there, etc.).

Can my teenager volunteer with me?
Sure.  When you register, please enter a team name in the optional field so that we know you are together.  You will be scheduled together.  You can use your family name as the team name or create your own.
